Known as China's "economic engine" and nicknamed the "Magic City", Shanghai is a paragon of cultural integration between the East and the West. It is situated at the mouth of the Yangtze River, standing at the heart of China's eastern coastal region.
Shanghai has a subtropical monsoon climate. Summers here are hot and humid, winters are mild, while spring and autumn are comfortably pleasant – all of which create favorable conditions for travel. As a global financial center and an international trade hub, Shanghai is the city with the highest GDP in China, holding a significant position in the global economic landscape.
The architecture of Shanghai is a microcosm of "dialogue across time and space": - Yuyuan Garden, a classical Jiangnan-style garden from the Ming Dynasty, is renowned far and wide for its exotic rock "Yulinglong" (the Jade Exquisite). - Longhua Ancient Temple, a Chan (Zen) Buddhist temple first built during the Three Kingdoms period, carries a thousand years of history.
Shanghai's modern architecture is even more of a highlight. The Shanghai Grand Opera House, completed in 2025 and designed by Snøhetta, features a "folding fan" shape that integrates art with the river scenery. The 632-meter-tall Shanghai Tower boasts a sky-high observation deck, offering a bird's-eye view of the entire city. The visual contrast between the Bund's "International Architecture Gallery" and the skyscrapers in Lujiazui (on the opposite bank of the Huangpu River) is particularly breathtaking.
